The objective of the Caboolture Gem Club is to provide our members with friendship, fun, skills training and development, and satisfaction, all within the umbrella of lapidary and allied crafts. The club is affiliated with the State body, Queensland Lapidary and Allied Crafts Clubs Association Inc. (known as QLACCA).
The Caboolture Gem Club was first begun in 1971, by local people who were avid fossickers and needed a place for a co-operative, comprehensive workshop to work their craft. Today we have grown from 1 room to 3 (in 2 adjacent buildings) with a host of facilities and equipment for lapidary work, silversmithing and faceting.
Our club clubhouse is a magnificent railway goods shed of historical significance, rented by the club from the beautiful Caboolture Historical Village, and situated within the village. This has been augmented by the addition of the Ray Robinson Building and a covered lunch area.
Work done in the workshops include cabochon cutting, slabbing & facing, silver-smithing, faceting, metal casting, plus production by tumbling of polished stones which are then used in providing an educational experience for visiting children.
One of the major benefits of being a member of our gem club is the availability of training and equipment that is of a higher quality than most individuals can afford to have at home.
We are a competitive club within the QLACCA umbrella. In the last 5 years, current members have been placed in the top 10 for ‘Lapidary of The Year – QLD’, and Caboolture Gem Club consistently scores in the top 2 places for Lapidary Club of the Year.
